A key you carry or a plan you discuss?
Unpluq is worth considering if you want a portable physical checkpoint before using distracting apps. Badger fits an iPhone user who wants a personal agent involved in the plan, with optional requests from an existing assistant. The decision begins with where you want the friction: finding and tapping a key, or working with an agent on app access.
Think about where the tag will live
Unpluq's official FAQ describes a wireless NFC Tag used with its app and scheduled blocking. During selected times, tapping the Tag acts as a distraction barrier. A keychain-style object can make the decision tangible while still travelling with you. That portability can be a benefit or an inconvenience depending on what you are trying to change.
Someone who wants a checkpoint on a commute may prefer carrying a tag rather than leaving an unlock object at home. Someone who wants evening distance from social media might deliberately place it away from the sofa. These are different setups for the same physical mechanism. Decide which you want before purchasing; keeping a key beside the phone produces a different habit from having to walk to retrieve it.
The app also has digital barriers
Unpluq is not simply a piece of hardware that locks the phone electronically. Its FAQ documents free and Premium software, schedules and multiple barrier types, including digital choices. Tag use requires Premium. It describes an emergency mode for temporary access and changing a barrier if the tag is unavailable. Review those instructions before depending on a schedule away from home.
A second sensible reason to choose Unpluq is wanting both physical and digital access conditions in one product. That differs from assuming every unlock requires a tag under every configuration. If the physical-object choice is your main concern, also read Badger vs Brick: the purchase model and normal release workflow deserve their own comparison.
Agent-supported access without a dedicated key
Badger's own proactive agent works inside its iPhone app. You can discuss what you want to do instead of scrolling and how the plan should respond when circumstances change. A genuine need or changed plan can affect access, while asking alone may not end a commitment. Learn the app's emergency unblock. There is no dedicated NFC object required by the workflow described here.
Badger can also accept reasoned block/unblock requests from a supported outside assistant for groups you explicitly authorize. That assistant gets group names and identifiers, not the apps within them, usage history or confirmed phone state. Active commitments can reject requests; verify any accepted action on the iPhone. This does not turn a conversation into a physical barrier or establish that either approach is harder to bypass.
Hardware, subscription and compatibility
The current Unpluq store offers Tag and subscription-duration combinations. A default product price is not enough to establish a tag-inclusive annual total or renewal rate. Check exactly which hardware, Premium period and ongoing terms are in the selected bundle. Do not compare a hardware-only number with a recurring software plan as though they bought the same thing.
Unpluq supports iPhone and Android subject to the required NFC and operating-system compatibility. Check your exact model before ordering. Badger's documented scope in this article is iPhone; no Android or desktop blocking is implied. Its availability and pricing should be checked independently rather than inferred from a competitor's hardware cost.
A practical choice before buying
Does the Tag require Premium? Yes, according to the FAQ. Can I choose a digital barrier? Yes; the software documents other choices. Choose Unpluq if carrying or deliberately storing a physical key is the mechanism you want, or if its supported Android option matters. Choose Badger if you want personal-agent help without buying that object. In either case, start with nonessential apps and test both the restriction and release path before extending it to a larger group.
