Badger vs Brick: A Physical Unlock Ritual or an iPhone Focus Agent?

Compare Brick’s physical release, remote activation and hardware purchase with Badger’s agent-led iPhone plan and optional assistant requests.

Where should the unlock decision live?

Brick makes physical distance part of app blocking. Badger puts a personal agent inside the iPhone workflow, with optional requests from an external assistant. Consider Brick when leaving an unlock object elsewhere is the commitment you want to make. Consider Badger when you want to discuss the plan and its changing circumstances without buying a dedicated physical object.

A physical object changes the routine

The Brick product page describes choosing blocked apps/sites or a keep-only mode, activating a session, and normally tapping the physical Brick to unblock. That makes the object's location a meaningful setup choice. Leaving it near the front door creates a different experience from carrying it in the same pocket as the phone.

One sensible use is a household evening ritual: decide which essentials stay available and leave the object away from the sofa. Another is a work session where you deliberately put the unlock mechanism in a different room. Neither example proves that physical friction works for everyone. If you travel frequently or need access to an unpredictable set of apps, think through how often you will want the object nearby.

Starting remotely is different from ending remotely

Brick documents remote activation from the app, so it is inaccurate to say you must always touch the object to start. The product also advertises scheduling. The distinction is that normal unbricking still relies on the physical object. The reviewed documentation includes Strict Mode and five Emergency Unbricks for genuine access needs or a lost Brick.

Before relying on it, learn those exception controls and decide what must remain available. An emergency option is not a reason to dismiss the product, but it is a reason to avoid an absolute no-bypass claim. Treat the return-to-access process as part of the product you are choosing, rather than a detail to discover once you urgently need a blocked app.

The agent-led alternative

Badger includes its own proactive agent. You can explain what you want to do instead of scrolling and discuss a different action when the original plan no longer fits. A real need or genuine change can affect access; asking alone may not end a commitment. The app includes an emergency way out. This comparison does not establish a stronger lock or more reliable enforcement than Brick.

A supported outside assistant can also request a block or unblock of a Badger group you authorize, with a reason. Active commitments may reject it. The connection returns group names and identifiers, not group membership, usage activity or confirmed device state. Check a selected app on the iPhone after an accepted request. That makes the connector useful for initiating phone focus from a conversation, without implying that the assistant watches you scrolling.

Hardware cost and phone compatibility

Brick's page lists support for iPhones on iOS 17 or later and Android 12 or later. Its hardware listing shows $59 in USD when checked, before any applicable shipping or tax. Current service terms describe a one-time hardware purchase with the app and associated services included, and no recurring fees under the present model. They reserve the possibility of optional future paid services; present terms are not a promise about every future product.

Badger's documented scope here is iPhone and requires no dedicated physical tag. Its current availability and price should be checked independently. An Android user, or someone specifically wanting a visible physical ritual, has a concrete reason to inspect Brick. An iPhone user who wants personal-agent support may prefer Badger's interaction model.

Questions before ordering

Does Brick have to be nearby to start? Remote activation is documented; starting and ending are different steps. What if I lose it? The official page describes Emergency Unbricks, whose current conditions you should review. Should I compare another physical key? Yes: Unpluq has a different tag-and-subscription model. Choose around where the object will live and how exceptions should work, not an unsupported claim that any lock is impossible to bypass.
