Decide who defines the boundary

AppBlock is worth evaluating when you want explicit rules for work, home or a study session, including controls over changing those rules. Badger is an alternative for iPhone users who want their personal agent involved in shaping a blocking plan. The difference is how you want to manage the boundary, not whether a configurable blocker can automate anything.

Time, location and an immediate start

AppBlock's iOS feature page documents Quick Block, time/location schedules, an allowlist, Strict Mode and Pomodoro. A schedule suits a predictable work period. A location condition may suit someone who wants a different boundary at an office than at home. Quick Block is useful when the need starts now rather than at the next scheduled time.

For example, a student with a regular library routine could choose a recurring rule and leave study tools available. Someone with an irregular freelance day might start a short focus interval manually instead. Both are plausible AppBlock uses. Choosing a repeatable rule does not mean you are unwilling to adapt; it can mean you already know the behavior you want from the software.

A partner and an agent are different relationships

AppBlock advertises partner approval for disabling Strict Mode. That invites another person into the return-to-access decision. Before choosing it, discuss when the partner will be available and what should happen if you need an essential app. This can suit someone who actively wants human accountability, rather than simply a harder button to press.

Badger's own proactive agent is part of its app. Tell it the goal and what is getting in the way; a real change of plan can affect the action connected to access. Asking alone may not end a commitment, and the in-app emergency unblock remains important. Agent support and a partner's approval are not equivalent promises, so choose the relationship you would actually welcome during a difficult moment.

Optional assistant requests

With Badger's external connection, a supported assistant can request blocks and unblocks of authorized iPhone groups with a reason. It cannot select arbitrary apps, retrieve screen-time activity, see group membership or confirm phone enforcement through that interface. Active commitments can reject requests. After acceptance, test a selected app on the iPhone rather than assuming the conversation proves a block.

That workflow may fit someone already planning a task in an assistant conversation. It does not make Badger an Android blocker or desktop extension, nor does it establish a connection to AppBlock's usage reports. If the task is instead maintaining explicit rules without conversational involvement, AppBlock deserves a fair trial.

Check the platform, not just the brand

AppBlock has iOS and Android products and extensions for Chrome, Edge and Brave. Its general product descriptions should not be read as a promise that every trigger and limit exists on each platform. In particular, do not transfer an Android-specific feature to iPhone just because the name appears on the same website. A browser extension is also not evidence of blocking every native desktop app.

Install the relevant version, grant required permissions, and test a small list with essential apps outside it. Check both the trigger and the way access resumes. Strict Mode is intended to discourage changing your rules; it is not an independently verified impossibility of bypassing them. If a work location or accountability partner is central to your plan, test that condition before committing to a larger configuration.

Premium and a fit decision

The official Premium matrix shows free limits and paid options that differ by platform. It does not establish one reliable universal price here. Review your device's current offer, renewal period and the features you need. No Badger monetary plan or comparative saving is asserted.

Can AppBlock use location on iPhone? The reviewed iOS page documents location schedules. Can another person approve release? Partner approval is advertised for disabling Strict Mode. Choose AppBlock for a configuration you want to define precisely or share with a partner. Choose Badger for personal-agent support and optional assistant-originated phone requests.
