These products start on different devices

Cold Turkey Blocker is a desktop-focused option for Windows and macOS. Badger's documented workflow here is iPhone app blocking with its own personal agent and optional requests from another assistant. If the distraction is a computer game or desktop website, saying Badger replaces a desktop blocker would skip the most important part of the decision.

When desktop restrictions are the job

Cold Turkey's official product page describes website, application and game blocking, schedules, allowances, passwords and locked blocks. The installation uses desktop software with supporting browser extensions. Check the browsers and applications you intend to control instead of assuming an extension alone supplies the complete product.

A writer whose main detour is opening news sites on a laptop has a reason to evaluate a desktop blocker. So does someone who wants selected games unavailable on a work computer. Those are genuine Cold Turkey fit cases even if they also use a personal assistant. The device where you discuss a task is not necessarily the device where a particular blocker acts.

A deliberate lock is a product choice

A locked desktop block can be attractive precisely because changing the decision becomes harder. Before starting one, inspect its current controls and release conditions. Consider the work sites, communication tools and essential applications you will still need. An overly broad configuration can interrupt the same task you meant to protect.

Decide whether you want a schedule that repeats a known rule, an allowance within a block or a session with deliberately limited changes. Those requirements may make Cold Turkey a better fit than introducing a conversation into every decision. This is not a claim that its restrictions are impossible to bypass, or that a stricter boundary produces a better outcome for everyone.

Where Badger's phone agent fits

Badger includes its own proactive agent, which can work with your goals and what you tell it to shape an iPhone blocking plan. You can discuss a different action toward the goal when circumstances change. Asking alone may not end a commitment, and the in-app emergency unblock should be understood in advance. Evaluate that relationship if the phone beside your computer is the actual source of distraction.

The outside-assistant connection is optional. A supported assistant can request blocks or unblocks of authorized Badger groups with reasons. It receives group names and identifiers, not apps inside groups, usage history or confirmed phone enforcement. Active commitments may reject requests. Acceptance must be checked on the iPhone, rather than treated as proof that the computer or phone changed state.

Why one might not replace the other

A request sent from a desktop assistant to Badger still targets iPhone groups. It does not block the computer that sent it. Conversely, Cold Turkey's desktop scope does not establish native iPhone app blocking. You may find that only one surface needs a tool. Identify that surface before paying for features aimed at another device.

If you truly need a coordinated boundary across phone and computer, inspect a multi-device product such as Freedom. If you specifically want an assistant to request desktop website restrictions, the AI app-blocker guide explains LockIn MCP's distinct scope. Neither comparison implies that unrelated products share settings or have established compatibility.

Purchase model and first configuration

Cold Turkey advertises a one-time purchase model rather than a subscription. Check the current free/paid feature split, supported operating system and purchase terms on its own site; historical dollar amounts should not be treated as today's offer. Compare Cold Turkey Blocker specifically, rather than mixing in its separate Writer or Micromanager products. Badger's availability and pricing are independent checks.

Does Cold Turkey replace an iPhone blocker? Not on the documented desktop scope alone. Does a Badger request from a Mac block Mac apps? No such capability is established. Choose Cold Turkey for desktop restrictions and deliberate lock settings; choose Badger for personal-agent involvement in iPhone focus. Start with a small selection and test the complete return-to-access path before depending on either during important work.
